If you’re looking for a fun family-friendly activity, take a trip to LegoLand Discovery Center! This fun and educational attraction is a great way to spend an afternoon when you’re not on the water. Sea Life Aquarium is also only 20 minutes away. This aquarium has great reviews and is home to a large variety of fresh and saltwater fish, complete with an underwater tunnel.
Sashabaw Plains Park is also a great option for a summer day. This park contains a beautiful green space, sports fields, and courts, a playground for the kids, as well as a picnic area with grills.
One special spot in the small town of Independence is the Clarkston Community Garden. The property was donated to the township and has 100 share plots that are available for rental. The sustainable garden is still in its beginning stages with only a few acres being in use, but there are also improvements planned for the near future. Residents nearby are invited to volunteer their green thumbs to the organization where all of the organic vegetables produced are donated to those in need in the community.
